Laid Scrim
Laid Scrim is an essential component used by customers in construction, industrial and composite markets in order to provide dimensional stability, tensile strength, tear resistance, fire resistance, anti-microbial properties, and water resistance.
- Cross machine (or fill) yarns are “laid” at a 90° angle between two sheets of machine direction (or warp) yarns. In tri-directional constructions, the angle of the fill yarn is controlled by the production width of the scrim and the number of arms on the turbine. (See diagrams below.)
Fibers typically used are fiberglass (22 tex -330 tex) and polyester (44 dtex -2200 dtex), though other synthetic polymer fibers, natural fibers and high modulus yarns can be processed.
- Coating takes place in-line with a variety of binders that include polyvinyl alcohol, polyvinyl chloride, acrylic, thermoplastic, styrene butadiene rubber and plastisol.
